The hit song that enthralled millions of followers set the stage to the Wizkid to release commercially successful albums over the last 12 years. The latest album “Made In Lagos is a huge success and has garnered his international attention since it climbed to the top spot in the Billboard World Album Chart.

At the age of eleven, he co-founded an ensemble of musicians named the Glorious Five which released an album before breaking up to pursue individual careers. At the time his stage name of Lil Prinz. His love for music was sparked through listening to legends of the music industry such as Fela Anikulapo Kuti Bob Marley, Lucky Dube and The King Sunny Ade.

As he grew older, he began to visit the studio of the legendary Nigerian producer OJB Jezreel and began to become acquainted with the artiste’s older counterpart. OJB Jezreel was an advisor to Wizkid and advised Wizkid to wait one year before beginning recording.

The most significant moment in Wizkid‘s professional career was when he was spotted by a talent executive, music executive manager and even singer Banky W.

Wizkid was born into a polygamous clan on July 16th, 1990. He comes from the Yoruba tribe, and was named Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun by his parents. His father is an Muslim and his mother is a follower of the Christian religion and is a member of the Pentecostal congregation in Nigeria.

Wizkid‘s first foray into music began at the age of 11 when he founded a music band, Glorious Five along with his fellow friends. The group was comprised of his church friends. The group, together, released an album in collaboration before breaking up. Wizkid‘s first band title used to be Lil Prinz He changed his stage name to his current moniker in 2006.

When Wizkidadvanced through the years and years, he met some famous stars in the world of music. He first met a renowned music producer named OJB Jezreel who advised him to not make any music recordings for a year and instead focus on improving the quality of his songs. In the time he was there when he was a regular check-in at OJB Jezreel‘s Studio which was in the neighborhood of his home, Ojuelegba. This provided him with the chance to see how artists like 2baba and Sound Sultan create music.

Later, he came into contact with rapper Naeto C who is credited as an influential mentor in his music industry. It was finally Wizkid‘s feet when his paths crossed paths with Banky W who is a performer as well as a talent manager and the CEO at E.M.E Records. The Banky W was referred into his Wizkid right away and started working closely with the upcoming musician to perfect his style. The result was that Wizkid signed a contract with E.M.E records in the year 2009 .

The discography of Wizkid, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, consists of four studio albums, one EP, fifty-three singles (including thirty-nine as a featured artist), forty-four promotional singles, sixteen guest appearances, six cameo appearances and thirty-three music videos. Wizkid started his music career at age 11, releasing a seven-track collaborative album with Glorious Five entitled Lil Prinz.[1] Wizkid garnered notoriety when he collaborated with Naeto C, Ikechukwu, M.I and Kel. He signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009. From 2009 through 2011, Wizkid worked on materials for his debut album Superstar (2011). Superstar was supported by the singles “Love My Baby”, “Pakurumo”, “Tease Me/Bad Guys”, “Don’t Dull” and “Holla at Your Boy”.

Wizkid was one of the lead artists on the compilation album Empire Mates State of Mind, which was released to the public through the music platform Spinlet. The album features EME acts as well as guest appearances from XO Senavoe, Rotimi and Basketmouth. His second studio album, Ayo, was released on 17 September 2014. In 2017 he released his third studio album, Sounds from the Other Side, which brought Wizkid’s first entry into the major international charts, including the Billboard 200 and UK Albums Chart. On 30 October 2020 he published his fourth studio album, Made in Lagos, which received critical acclaim, confirming the international chart success of the previous project. Made in Lagos contains the single “Essence”, which became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Wizkid’s 2016 collaboration with Canadian hip-hop artist Drake on his international hit, “One Dance”, reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, thereby becoming his most commercially successful single to date. Between 2019 and 2020, Wizkid was featured in Beyoncé’s projects The Lion King: The Gift and its relative visual project Black Is King, and won a Grammy Award with the collaboration “Brown Skin Girl”.

Wizkid has collaborated with international and domestic acts such as Bracket, Angel,Lynxxx, Iyanya, Wande Coal, Ice Prince, R2Bees, Wale, Young Jeezy, Akon, Uhuru, Drake, Tyga and Femi Kuti, among others.
